The Source of True Power: Zechariah 4:6

"Not by power nor by might, but by My Spirit says the Lord Almighty." – Zechariah 4:6

We live in a world obsessed with metrics of power. We measure success by influence, physical strength, financial might, and sheer force of will. When faced with an insurmountable mountain (in Zechariah’s case, the rebuilding of the temple against massive opposition), our default human instinct is to gather more resources, push harder, and grind it out.

The Illusion of Might

God interrupts Zerubbabel’s anxiety with a completely counter-cultural strategy. He explicitly removes human effort from the equation of ultimate success. "Power" (human collective strength) and "might" (individual physical or mental stamina) are declared insufficient. No matter how much you stockpile, it will never be enough to accomplish a divine mandate.

The Wind of the Spirit

The alternative isn't passivity; it is a different power source altogether. "By My Spirit," says the Lord. The Holy Spirit operates differently than human muscle. Human might exhausts itself; the Spirit renews. Human power meets resistance and breaks; the Spirit flows like water and wind, eroding mountains over time or blowing them away instantly.

When you hit a wall in your life, marriage, or calling, stop trying to break it down with your own fists. Step back and invite the breath of God to do what your sweat never could.
