Restoring the Eaten Years

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten.” — Joel 2:25a (NIV)

Time is the one currency we can never earn back. Once it is spent—or stolen, or wasted, or devoured—it is gone forever. This is the great tragedy of trauma, addiction, wandering, or simply being caught in a catastrophic season. We don't just mourn the loss of stuff; we mourn the loss of years.

In the book of Joel, Israel experiences a literal plague of locusts that strips the land bare. The economy is ruined, the food supply is gone, and years of agricultural labor are wiped out in a matter of days.

But God steps in with a promise that defies physics and time.

Repaying Time

God doesn't just say, "I will give you new crops next year." He says, "I will repay you for the years." How does God restore time?

He does it through supernatural multiplication and acceleration. When God’s favor rests upon you, He can accomplish in one year what would normally take ten years to build. He can bring a depth of maturity, a richness of joy, and a magnitude of harvest that makes the desolate years feel like a distant, powerless memory.

The Locusts

The locusts in your life might be a bad relationship, a devastating illness, a long season of depression, or poor decisions that you bitterly regret. The enemy wants you to stare at the barren field and believe that your timeline is permanently broken.

But the Creator of time is not bound by time. Bring Him the barren field. Repentance and returning to God is the catalyst for restoration. God is a restorer. He will bring a harvest out of the ashes, and He will repay the eaten years.
