Making It Last

Human effort is fleeting and easily erased by time. Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90 is a plea for God to infuse our fragile labor with divine permanence.

1. Fleeting Labor vs. Eternal Firmness

Without God's favor, even our hardest work eventually crumbles. When God establishes our work, He locks it into an eternal trajectory. This chart contrasts the fragility of solo human effort with work established by the Lord.

פֹּעַל

POAL (Deeds/Work)

"God's majestic action"

Before we ask God to bless our work, we must ask Him to show us His work. Alignment precedes establishment.

נֹעַם

NOAM (Favor/Beauty)

"Pleasantness / delight"

God's smiling face resting upon our lives. This grace is the absolute prerequisite for any lasting legacy.

כּוּן

KUN (Establish)

"To make firm / stable"

Driving the pegs deep into the bedrock. Making the temporary labor of our hands resistant to the erosion of time.

2. The Erosion Curve

Time is the great equalizer. Self-made empires peak quickly and immediately begin to decay. Work that is established by God may start small, but its significance compounds into eternity long after we are gone.

The Takeaway:

Don't build on sand just because it's faster. Ask God to make your work firm.

3. The Architecture of Legacy

The sequence of Psalm 90:16-17

STEP 1

VISION

"Show us Your deeds"

Seeing the big picture.

STEP 2

GENERATIONS

"Splendor to children"

Thinking beyond our own life.

STEP 3

FAVOR

"Let favor rest on us"

The requirement of grace.

STEP 4

ESTABLISHED

"The work of our hands"

Made firm forever.

4. Fragility vs Permanence

Plotting the anxiety and eventual decay of human-only effort versus the peace and eternal impact of God establishing the work of our hands.
